MFL

Intent

MFL is an important element of our school, and we want our children to have the opportunity to learn a modern foreign language (Spanish), which we see as a necessary part of being a member of a multicultural society and provides an opening to other cultures. A high-quality range of languages provides an education that allows our pupils to foster curiosity. It will also allow all of our pupils to further deepen their understanding of the world. 

Implementation

To ensure that we provide a rich Spanish curriculum, with memorable lessons and experiences, to inspire our children to write and speak a foreign language, we have introduced a new and comprehensive scheme of work. Lessons are taught to build on pupils’ prior knowledge and skills within the curriculum to allow all pupils to continue to build. We incorporate the creative approach of songs and games. In addition, we also ensure that all work is differentiated to meet the needs of the children.

Impact

When children leave Vittoria, we want their learning of Spanish to enable them to feel confident and motivated to speak Spanish. Pupils will be able to recognise and write simple sentences in Spanish. Most importantly, they will have a better understanding of another culture.
